Here's a question. Or a few...

When working as an employee, who does your marketing? What sorts of marketing techniques do you or your place of business use to bring in new clients?

Fliers? Coupons? Chair massage? What sort of wording is used on your printed materials, and do you give discounts or freebies?

Are your business cards supplied for you, or do you have your own? Or...do you have two sets of business cards for private work, too?

And not to forget the holidays coming up... What do you do special for the holiday season?

Katy, I had different experiences when I worked as an employee.

Chiro:

They did the ads, newspaper, and nice flyers. The doctors listed their credentials...there was a generic mention of a licenced Massage Therapist on staff. They did supply business cards on fine stock. By personal effort my business thrived.

Athletic Club:

They did the ads, made up a cheerful flyer on letter quality paper. No business cards.
Put up a pic of the therapists on the staff board. When I got there, the book was really slow. So I grabbed my massage chair, and experimented with locations.
The open lounge near the front desk did NOT work *lol*...people were in a rush to get changed, or go home.

Then I found a quite corner down the hall from the changing rooms.
One wall was completely windowed, facing the open basketball court/in line skating area on top of the garage in this high rise, and the lovely city scape behind it. It was on the walk path toward the exercise rooms. I comp'ed 15 minute massages...that became so popular that I had to keep a sign-in sheet! (and hold the client until the next arrived...else they would try to "bump" *lol*the client getting extra minutes seldom complained)

I also gave a "free half hour" for the members' birthday...which they could redeem at any time.

I taught a "Massage Your Mate" (or S.O.) seminar. A room was given to me. I had a really nice boss! These methods brought me a lot of regular business, they had to hire additional therapists (*lol* on my suggestion) to keep up.

Spa:

They advertised services, instead of individuals. Did supply nice stock business cards. Busy there, usually full booked, so not much extra advertising was needed. Did make sure the stylists got a comp whenever I was free.
They are the best advertising! :)

Christmas:

At the Athletic Club, and Spa...I sold a lot of gift certificates, on request.
